Arterial hypertension is the most serious side effect of high doses and prolonged intake of glucocorticosteroids. Oral or parenteral administration of glucocorticosteroids is found to be a significant risk factor for hypokalaemic events. Other side effect is dyslipidemia, caused by increased plasma insulin levels and disorders of lipid metabolism.
