Cannabinoids can reduce anxiety, but do not have an ergogenic effect. They possibly cause a parasympathetic blockade. Moreover, they produce β-adrenergical stimulation leading to increased heart rate and decreased cardiac output. Its use may increase the myocardial oxygen demand, as well as decreased oxygen delivery, as a result of arterial vasospasm. These alterations lead to myocardial ischemia, arrhythmias, and sudden cardiac death. There are also published cases of stroke after smoking cannabis.
